Free Shakespeare production in Ramsey Park starts June 11

Shakespeare in the Park Social MediaAn annual summer tradition returns to Ramsey Park! Something for Nothing Theatre presents Henry IV, Part 1 for this year’s Shakespeare in the Park. This will be the first theater production in the newly renovated Ramsey Park amphitheater. Shows begin at 8:00 p.m. for three weekends (Thursdays – Saturdays, June 11-13, 18-20, and 25-27, 2015). Admission is free and seating is first come, first serve. Highland Resources (a supporter of Ramsey Park and the developer of Lamar Central at 3800 North Lamar) is sponsoring this free event and has special treats planned for the showings on Saturday, June 13th and Saturday, June 20th. So bring friends and family, and join us for Shakespeare in the Park!

Benefit garden/art tour in the district coming up

nxnaThe North by North Austin Garden and Artisan Tour, scheduled for May 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include tours of 17 private gardens and three community gardens, and will feature over a dozen artists. Get more information and buy tickets here. Tickets proceeds will go to Walnut Creek Metro Park and McBee Elementary School. The tour will include gardens going north starting at 45th Street in Rosedale.  

Movie Night at Ramsey Park: Get Hooked Nov 8th

hookintheparkMovie Night in Ramsey Park is happening again Saturday November 8th! Movie Night is paying tribute to the late Robin Williams in a perfect role for him, as a grown up Peter Pan looking to recover his lost Peter Pan-ness! Dustin Hoffman makes a dastardly Captain Hook!
Come join in! Bounce houses will be going at 5:00 p.m. and the movie will start a little after 6:00. Gusto Italian Kitchen will be there with some yummy fare and Midtown Church will be giving away popcorn.

Rosedale July 4th Carnival: help needed; plan your day

july4Make plans now to join your neighbors at the biggest Rosedale event of the year: the July 4th Carnival in (and around) Ramsey Park. The schedule for the event is below. Given the event’s size and scope, donations and volunteers are crucial. To donate baked goods and sliced watermelon, please contact Felicia Adams at adams4203@yahoo.com. Volunteers are needed to help with carnival games, set up and clean up.

Shakespeare in Ramsey Park

hamletMovie Night in the Park was terrific!  Don’t you love Shrek?  So let’s step back 400 years!! Bring your chairs and blankets and spend another great night in Ramsey Park!! Come see Hamlet presented free by Something For Nothing Theater Austin.  This is the same troupe that brought us Two Gentlemen of Verona last year and The Comedy of Errors in 2012. Movie in the park this Saturday, May 3rd: Shrek and more!

movie_night_may_3_2014Movie Night is coming back to Ramsey Park! On May 3rd, Shrek, Princess Fiona and their sidekick Donkey will arrive on the big screen to entertain. Festivities will start at 7pm, and the movie will start around 8:15.

Allison Allen has recruited a number of local sponsors to help making this wonderful event possible. Everyone’s invited and green faces, little ogres and Princess Fiona look-alikes are encouraged!

Camp Mabry Open House and Muster Day – April 26-27

campmabryopenhouse2104About 1/2 mile west of Rosedale, just on the other side of Mopac (Loop 1) is Camp Mabry and April 26 and 27th will be one of your best opportunities of the year to find out all about the camp. There will be an open house, reenactments of WWII battles, air shows, a band, dancers, demonstrations, and more. Learn more about Camp Mabry and Muster Day on their website. The event is free but don’t forget to bring a photo ID for admission onto the post. And even if you don’t take advantage of this event, you’ll undoubtedly hear some of the noise coming from out west.

Funky Chicken Coop Tour happening April 19th, 2014

funkychickencooptour2014The sixth annual Funky Chicken Coop Tour (FCCT) will be Saturday, April 19th, and headquarters are just a short walk from Rosedale over at the Sunshine Community Gardens. For the poultry sum of $12 you can see Sunshine Community Garden’s own 600 square foot coop, plus a baker’s dozen of other interesting hen houses around town. There’s no connection to the Rosedale Neighborhood Association (other than most of us enjoy eggs from time to time), but there are coops in the neighborhood and they may have even been a part of the FCCT in years past.

The Rosedale Ride: 20 years fund raising for Rosedale School

The Rosedale name has as interesting history and has been applied to many things, including our own neighborhood and an annual bicycle ride that this year is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary. This year’s ride is on March, 22nd.

The Rosedale Ride raises money for the Rosedale Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the children of The Rosedale School. The school at 2117 W 49th St,  is  AISD’s only school for children with multiple disabilities.
