City lifeguard search signals pool opening not too far off

lifeguardswanted2Once again the city of Austin is gearing up for the coming swim season by recruiting lifeguards for the 50 or so aquatic facilities around town. In the past, the lack of enough lifeguards forced the city to delay openings and miss swim days. They continue to hone their recruiting program for the more than 750 lifeguards needed. The city is working to have enough qualified staff to help ensure reliable pool availability. The city’s “Get Hired, Get Trained, Get Working” page provides information prospective guards need to sign up, including registration form, class and certification schedule.

Consider signing up or encouraging any qualified teen underfoot to do so to help ensure enough skilled lifeguards to keep the pools open and maybe even to be able to extend the pool hours. Details are available at the city’s web site, in a KXAN video report, and on the statesman blog. The city also has a page for general information about Austin city pools.
