Free tree give-away in the area on March 7th by Treefolks

treefolks500 free 1-gallon trees will be given out on March 7th in the area. This giveaway is made possible through the generosity of TreeFolks in partnership with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority/MoPac Improvement Project. This information was provided by TreeFolks’ Education and Outreach Coordinator and passed along with permission by Austin Council member Leslie Pool. The “adoption” will run from 9 am until 1pm or until all trees are distributed.  It will be first come, first served, two trees per household, with no requirement to qualify for the free trees.  The species offered are native trees that do well in our area and include Bald Cypress, Mexican White Oak, Cedar Elm, Mexican Buckeye, Deciduous Holly (Possumhaw), Texas Redbud, and Mexican Plum. TreeFolks is also looking for volunteers to help out distributing the trees and answering questions. You can find out more at treefolks.org/volunteer. The March 7 tree adoption is slated to take place at 4000 Jackson (paralleling Mopac just to the east between Bull Creek Road and 35th Street), in the DMV parking lot.

March 7th is also, not coincidentally, “It’s My Park Day” and volunteers are still being sought for work planned to improve the field at Ramsey Park from 9am to noon.  Also on March 7th from 1 pm to 3 pm is the official ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Ramsey Park. The mayor and other dignitaries, as well as refreshments and music will be provided to mark the occasion.
