If you haven’t been out to Ramsey Park lately, I encourage you to visit this weekend. The transformation is really coming together. Some paths are open, the basketball court shade is back up, and the play structures are beginning to rise. Over the next few weeks it will be very exciting to see Phases II and III finish.
The park committee met with PARD on Monday and we are on track to complete Phases II and III by the end of January, maybe sooner if mother nature, holiday schedules, and concrete contractors cooperate. Please remember that other than the swings, all playscapes are closed for safety reasons. There is no safety surface for one (ergo the big fall off from the sidewalk circling the playscape) and there is no guarantee that equipment is secure until all fencing is removed. Our investment is also potentially jeopardized if there are any breaches. That means no one should be inside the fences or on the equipment as tempting as it may be. If you see someone trespassing, please call 911. (Note the one exception may be the mulching folks working Saturday December 13th at 10 AM).
After Phase III is completed we will take a few months to observe the circulation of the park and begin working again with PARD on Phase IV in March. We also will be exploring opportunities related to water fountains, additional picnic tables, the multi-use shelter structure, landscaping and possible shade options between the playscapes – those likely would be captured in a Phase V. The “Friends of Ramsey Park” walk will be among the last things installed under current plans. By PARD rules we can only install the pavers and bricks one time. We will do it as soon as possible, but we ask for your patience so we can be efficient stewards of our park and the opportunity this project provides.
If you are thinking about your year end giving, please consider donating to the Ramsey Park project. We hope we have earned your trust and that you can see the real impact we are having right here in your own backyard. To donate or secure your paver, please visit http://www.ramseypark.org/donate/.
