[UPDATE: per a news item from June 9, Ramsey Pool is still planning to open on the 9th.] Ramsey pool is scheduled to open for the season Monday, June 9th at 11am. The delayed opening is the result of a lifeguard shortage. The City of Austin has a web page that details the dates and hours for the Rosedale neighborhood pool. The opening and closing dates for the pool were adjusted this year to coincide with AISD’s summer vacation.
Those dates, and the adjusted hours, were designed to be more consistent throughout Austin’s pools.
The city’s aquatic facilities include seven municipal pools, 27 neighborhood pools, six wading pools and 10 splash pads. The city website for pools and splash pads include links for lifeguard and water safety training, swim lessons, a PDF of the pool schedule (dates, hours and features by pool), and an interactive ‘Parks Viewer’ to search for a pool near you (although at the time of the writing of this article the Viewer was offline due to technical difficulties).
The city is still on the lookout for 50 additional lifeguards and will provide training for any qualified candidate interested.
Earlier this year the city called for input on prioritization for the cities pools and splash pads. The city’s web page for this program details the history of this effort and provided information about the input received.
